Henry L. Hamling

Henry L. Hamling, 70, Rosholt, SD, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Tony Dummer, OMI, officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.
Burial was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were all of his friends, fishing and hunting buddies. Active pallbearers were Curt Sylte, Chris Sylte, Eugene Hamling, Michael Hamling, Steve Harles, and Todd Whempner.
Visitation was Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Henry Leo was born October 15, 1941, to Henry J. and Theresa (Herding) Hamling, Sr., at Sisseton, SD. He attended rural school in Harmon Township through the eighth grade. After finishing school, Henry worked on the family farm and spent several winters in Texas working construction. He then began farming on his own in the Rosholt area.
On September 7, 1963, Henry married Sharon Littleton at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt. Henry continued to farm and two sons later joined in the farming operation.
Henry was a member of NFO, the Harmon Township Board and the Browns Valley School Board. He received the Pioneer Sunflower Award in 1992 and 1993. Henry enjoyed farming, hunting and bowling. He especially loved fishing on his lake property on the Missouri River.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Rosholt; children, Paul Hamling of Rosholt, Garner Hamling of Rosholt, Kristi (Del) Redlin of Clear Lake, SD, and Shannon (Troy) Rasmussen of Elkton, SD; five grandchildren, Duane and Richard Redlin, and Tyler, Riley and Shaedan Rasmussen; five sisters, Eleanor (Ted) Harles of Lidgerwood, Mary Ann Whempner of Wilmot, Dorothy (Larry) Neuberger of Eden, SD, Margaret (Marc) Smaldone of Hermosa, CA, and Darlene (Don) Halseth of Riverdale, ND; two brothers, Anthony (Gloria) Hamling of Williston, ND, and Dennis (Bonnie) Hamling of Rosholt; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Harles of Lidgerwood.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Timothy; and a sister, Delores Harles.
